We were privileged to have Alec Webb and Megan Camp as our guest speakers this morning.
 
Alec and Megan shared with us a bit about The Institute for Sustainable Schools, which has members from all over the world and forty-nine states. This is a powerful, expanding program at the Farm focused on teacher and student education for all ages.
Megan shared some information about events happening this summer including meeting a cheesemaker every day of the week and Farm Barn Fun which happens every Saturday at the children’s barn.

Ric presented Carol Georges as a new member of the CSH Rotary Club!

 

Ric also presented Linda Shiavone with a Paul Harris Plus One award.

 

Changing of the Guard will be June 23 at Backyard Bistro in Charlotte.

 

The Spinathon did have nineteen riders this past weekend!  $400 was raised for the Hinesburg AED.  

 

Senior Resource Fair this afternoon at Charlotte Senior Center. 

 

Shelburne Farmer’s Market starts this weekend.

Diane introduced Alec and Megan.  President and CEO of Shelburne Farms.  The Foundation was established in 1097. Megan is the Executive Vice President and has worked there since 1982.  

 

Alec established the non profit foundation with Marshall (deceased) in 1972. It was created to address the environmental concerns that were under development in the 1960’s.  They are focused on the growth of the farm for the next fifty years.  The Institute forSustainable Schools has members from all over the world and forty nine states.  This is a powerful expanding program at the Farm focused on teacher and student education for all ages. 

 

Alec shared a video that was created by Marshall.  

 

Megan shared some photos and discussion about what is happening this summer.  They now request donations (credit card friendly).  Every saturday is “Farm Barn Fun” at the children’s barn, creation of a forest playground,  meet a cheese maker every day, farm food cart, Shelburne Community concerts on Wednesday nights, “Sun to Cheese Tours” daily, ten miles of walking trails, House and Garden tours, Shelburne Farms Inn reopened the restaurant, and finally, renovations to The Coach Barn.  They also have a new website.  

 

Jim presented them each with a book to be donated to Pierson Library in Shelburne and The Charlotte Library. “Regeneration-Ending The Climate Crisis in One Generation” by Paul Hawken and “The Sustainable(ish)Living Guide” by Jen Gale.
