Today, at Rotary we heard from Rotarian, John Hammer regarding the March for Meals program through AgeWell. As we all know, Shelburne, Charlotte and Hinesburg have many participants in the Meals on Wheels program and this is an opportunity for our Rotary to get involved in this important fundraiser. The Rotarian attendees were very supportive of designating some of our budget dollars to March for Meals. Rick Flood moved that we donate $1500 of Rotary funds to AgeWell for this program. The Rotarians in attendance unanimously approved the motion!
We also had a special visitor, Ava, the winner of our speech contest and her mom stop in to have breakfast with us and express how grateful she is for the groups faith in her to represent the CSH Rotary at the statewide event next month.
Tara Zeleny and Sue Wiles spoke with rotarians today about a very interesting program entitled Color Our World. "Color Our World" programs began in Colorado and have spread all over the country including Vermont. The program is designed to engage readers of all ages in a celebration of art, culture, and reading. In the beginning, these programs were started to ensure all children regardless of their families’ economic situation were able to participate in the arts through coloring, painting and sketching. In Shelburne, the program started very small through church donations and has spread from there. This year libraries across the state are offering a variety of programs, events, and activities that encourage creativity and tap into the artistic sides of readers. The summer program will focus on using art as a means of creative expression, with activities ranging from painting and crafting to writing and musical performances. Throughout the coming summer, libraries all over Vermont will be hosting a variety of events, including animal outreach programs, bookmark contests, and opportunities to explore the artistic sides of different artists. The Shelburne Food Shelf provides art packets for the children of families struggling with food insecurity and the Fire Department and Police Department bring along art packets for children who are facing difficult family issues as well.
