Rotary District 7850 Governor Michael Carrier visited with members during his official visit. In his presentation, DG Mike highlighted Rotary International's theme, "Serve to Change Lives" and its vision that "People Create Change". He related his impactful experience working on a clean water project in Nicaragua and encouraged us to dream big and to challenge ourselves.

District Governor Michael Carrier is our guest today.

 

Susan Grimes called the meeting to order at 7:30.

 

Linda Gilbert shared opening words.

 

Susan welcomed Mike Carrier, District Governor.

 

Dan York shared a video he put together from the Golf Ball Drop.

 

Susan announced the winners of the ball drop.  $11,000 was raised.  

 

Ric Flood led the club in the four way test.

 

Richard Fox talked about the Halloween parade on October 31, 2-4 PM. The footprint will be similar to last year. Food concession still needs to be discussed and decided.  Interest in the community has already been generated.  

 

Chris Davis announced the receipt of a $2,000 grant, which we have to determine how to use, the use ought to be sustainable.  One thought was to work with a local group, such as scouting.  

 

Board meeting tomorrow morning.

 

Tractor parade is October 10, from 12:00 to 2:00. 

 

Happy fines were collected by Denis Barton.

 

Susan welcomed Mike again and introduced him.

 

Mike had a slide presentation with key words: “People create change.”

List of priorities:

  1. Increase our impact.
  2. Expand our reach.
  3. Enhance participant engagement.
  4. Increase our ability to adapt.

 

“Serve to Change Lives” is the internatioinal theme for the year.  

 

Mike shared an experience he had beginning in 2006 while a member of a club in New Jersey who joined forces with a rotary group from Plattsburgh, NY. Their project was providing clean water at a town in Nicaragua. 

 

Mike challenged the club to dream and challenge ourselves.

 

Susan presented Mike with the book: The Giving Way to Happiness: Stories and Science Behind the Life Changing Power of Giving by Jenny Santi, which will be donated to the Charlotte Library in his name.
