New Member Meet & Greet at Fiddlehead Brewery Night, May 14th

The Fiddlehead Brewery has brewed a special brew named SAS (Service Above Self) for the Changing of the Guard party on June 6. Last night there was a tasting party attended by a dozen of our members and 12-15 potential members. The average age was probably around 30 years old.  There were a lot of good conversations and the SAS was judged excellent. Thanks to John Beale for inviting so many guests.

Changing of the Guard Party

Three weeks until the Changing of the Guard.  It will take place between 6 and 9 at the Coach Barns at Shelburne Farms.  Linda Gilbert brought a sign up list.  We have only 58 signed up.  All members are urged to let Linda know if they are coming and if they will be bringing guests. An Email for the registration went out today, May 15. Members are encouraged to pay John Beal before the event to simplify the evening.  $40 per person which includes the meal (Roast beef and vegetable lasagna).

Club Bowlathon

It’s coming up, Friday, June 21 at the Champlain Lanes.  Ric brought 20 batches of solicitation letters totaling 468 to today’s meeting and three more members have submitted lists for solicitation. There is still time to submit more.  Next week the lane sign-up will begin.  Time to think about whom you would like to take part on your team.

Jim Spad’s Humor “Two golfers were out one day when they were about to tee off, one noticed that his partner had but one golf ball.  He asked, “ Don’t you have at least one other ball?”

Golfer Two replied, “No, I just need this one.  It’s a very special ball. I won’t lose it, I won’t need another.”

“But,” said Golfer One, “What happens if you miss your shot and the ball goes in a lake?”

Golfer Two replied, ”Oh, it has a special floatation capability.”

This continued for a while with the ball going into the trees and lost in the weeds – it has a homing beacon; play goes late and in the dusk the ball goes into a sand trap – this ball is florescent so you can see it in the dark.

Finally Golfer One asks, “ Wow, this is a wonderfully special ball, where did you get it?”

Golfer Two replied, ”Oh, I found it.”   Groans all round!!!!

Sergeant at Arms

Happy Fines

Rick Fox – Happy that the Bruins won Monday but less than happy that his infant daughter awoke at about 10:30 with a nightmare just at the time the Maple Leafs lost. She was bawling to beat the band.  Rick’s wife turned to him and said, “Oh dear, it looks like she has her grandfather’s genes, she’s a Leafs fan.” (The Bruins won the game 5-4 in overtime)

John Beale- The Rangers won.

Rick Flood – For all the Bowlathon letters that are off his desk – Thanks!!!

Debbie Hanley – Daughter, Megan, has been chosen to attend RYLA* this year.

Elaine Dates – Going to Seattle to the National Gardening meeting where she will be attending lots of workshops and visiting lots of gardens.

Trafton Crandall – Yankees are in first place

Roz Graham - Shelburne Farms is open for the season.  She is just back from a great two weeks in Hawaii. She saw Ann Pardee on the way home.  Ann will be in Shelburne in August and is willing to help on any 250 activities the Club might be involved in.

Kris Engstrom – Going to the Bahamas on Friday for 5 days.

John Hammer – Just back from Laguna Beach.  Saw a lot of Tom Glaser’s friends including Mal Parker out there – they were attending Tom’s son’s wedding in Newport Beach.

Tod Whitaker – Farmers’ Market opens in two weeks.

Mikie Marcotte – “I love my grandpa.”

George Schiavonne – Five of Clubs.  Rollover the small pot.

Speaker – Club Assembly

Grants

The Club has made the following grants for $150 (Below the $200 limit, therefore, they were approved by the Board): Howard Center, King Street Youth Center, and Puppets in Education. Not everyone is approved – Everybody Wins was tabled.

Club approval was voted for:

Camp TAKUMTA - $641.25 (The Club will probably serve breakfast in the latter part of July and this is the expected cost for that day’s breakfast)

Partners in Adventure - $ 250

C.O.T.S. - $250

Club Community Service Award

This year the Club has instituted a Community Service Award to replace the awarding of a Paul Harris Fellowship to non-members of Rotary. The recipient of this award was voted by an overwhelming majority at today’s meeting. The award will be presented at the Changing of the Guard. (Name withheld pending presentation)

Shelburne 250th Anniversary

David Cranmer is the Club’s representative on the Shelburne 250th Committee.  We have been told to expect some tasking and/or a request for funds. Nothing has yet been decided. The week during which the celebrations take place will be the third week in August. Shelburne Day will also be incorporated.
