Jim Spad’s Humor

This being baseball season, during a Little League game the coach pulled one of the young players aside and asked, “Do you understand what cooperation is? What a team is?” The little boy nodded in the affirmative.

The coach then asked, “Do you understand that it matters that we win or lose as a team?” The little boy nodded - yes.

The coach continued, “I know that you know that when a foul is called, you don’t curse the umpire, call him a whatever. Do you understand all of that?” The little boy nodded again – yes.

“When I take you out of the game so another boy gets a chance to play it’s not good to call your coach a dumb ass, is it?”  No”

“Good,” said the coach, “Now go on over there and explain all that to your grandmother.”

Sergeant at Arms – Trafton Crandall stood in today.  His fines wwere directed to any and all who referred to President Adam as a Lame Duck* today.

Happy Fines

Almost all persons gave a fine in memory of Barrie Carris and in honor of Al and Linda Gilbert.

John Hammer –For the wonderful awards given to Al and Linda Gilbert at the COG and for being the only one to call President Adam a “Lame Duck.”

Kris Engstrom – For 5 incredible days in Bahamian paradise, for the Gilberts’ Awards, and for President Adam stepping up to the plate in the last days of his presidency.

Howard Seaver – In memoriam for Barrie Carris’s life. He was also very proud to have seen that in all his time as a Rotarian, this was the first time that he had seen a truly Rotary-wide award presented to one of our members and we got two in the Gilberts.

Linda Gilbert – Thanks to all who worked so hard for the Changing of the Guard party, to Denny Bowen for running the set-up so smoothly, and special thanks to William Wissell for his wonderful meal and for being so flexible.

Chris Davis – For his son George, who took High Honors from the Charlotte Central School and the Charlotte-Shelburne-Hinesburg combined baseball team which is undefeated in 14 games.

Carol Obuchowski – Just attended her tenth college reunion and honoring Barrie Carris.

Linda Barker – For the Gilberts and a wonderful Changing of the Guard.

Jim Spadaccini – Appreciate the award given him at the Changing of the Guard.  He also noted that he, Barrie Carris and a number of other friends have been playing monthly poker games for years and last night was the first time in 32 years that Barrie had missed a game (other than by a timing conflict). It was sad and they drank a Champagne toast to his memory. He also wanted to honor the Gilberts’ award.

Sam Feitelberg- For all the great things that this Club does.

Terrill Titus – For our wonderful club, the Gilberts, and a friend’s son, “Slackwire” Sam Johnson, who made it on America’s Got Talent.  She was honored to have been visited by Ron and Kathy Tatro last week and passed on their best wishes to all the members.

John Beal – Bowlathon has about $15,800 of which $7,800 can be attributed to Tom Glaser.

Tod Whitaker – For the Gilberts and Barrie Carris

Michael Clapp – For a visit by his brother-in-law from the Isle of Jersey (UK)

Alan Hathaway – Who reminisced about the first time he appeared at Rotary and how welcoming Barrie Carris had been to him.

Bill Deming – John Dupee’s Lake Champlain sailing win

Fritz Horton – Remembered Barrie Carris teaching kids how to make wooden boats and his antique boat hobby.  Also for the great COG and the Gilberts.

Roz Graham – For a very successful affair at the Shelburne Farms Coach Barn for the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board (VHCB). At that affair, the VHCB presented an award to the Town of Shelburne for 25 years of preserving housing and land. She also paid a fine for the Gilberts and the COG.

Denny Bowen – Thanks for all the unnamed people who really did all the work in setting up and cleaning after the COG.

William Wissell – Was called out to receive an ovation for all that he has done for the club, especially his work at the COG. His comment was that he and his wife, Christine, do it because “it is about community and we enjoy doing that stuff.”

Chris Davis’s number was called and William Wissell drew the Jack of Clubs.  Roll over the very small pot.

Speakers – This meeting was set aside for committee meetings.
