Announcements

Rotary District 7850 Conference – 116 have registered where 130 is a great showing, so the numbers are looking good. Two clubs have cancelled their meetings for the week and rented vans to come to the conference. The menus for the buffets have been firmed up and the programs have been set. Roz Graham is working on getting the printed program together. The income relative to the anticipated costs is now at breakeven. Dave Rice is still looking for Ambassadors to serve on Saturday for the 12-4 and 4-8 periods. Contact him at: drice@together.net.

Charlotte Senior Center Volunteer Recognition Dinner – The dinner will be held on April 11th.  Sufficient Volunteers have signed up and Michael Clapp will remind by Email before the date. Thanks to those who have signed on.

Rebuilding Together As many of us have worked before on a project called Christmas in July that rebuilds houses for disabled and seniors, there was a call for volunteers by its successor organization, Rebuilding Together. The event will involve work on a South Burlington Senior Center on May 3rd. President Dave has details for those interested in joining.

Sergeant at Arms – Today’s theme as set off by discussions at Richard Fox’s table concentrating emotional scaring (bullies) and other remembrances both good and bad from Sixth Grade. He challenged all to share their stories.

Mark Joczik – Remembers his bell-bottom trousers and bemoaned the fact that he can’t  wear them any longer.

Sam Feitelberg – Remembered sixth grade chiseling his homework in stone.

Terrill Titus – Celebrated Ric Flood’s finally joining Facebook. She spent a great weekend with her granddaughters and remembered her Sixth Grade teacher, Mr. Snow, pulling out a bottle Vicks cough syrup and drinking the whole thing in one go. She moved from Paterson, NJ to Essex Junction in Sixth Grade. On her first day she had to ride the school bus. A Mr. Whitten who was famous for his detours drove it. On her first day, Mr. Whitten hit all the apple orchards enroute to her home so she was really late in getting home.

George Schiavonne – Couldn’t remember whether he was the class bully or bullyee in 6th Grade.

Howard Seaver – Sixth Grade was one of the best years of his life. He remembers that God was not in the Pledge of Allegiance. He remembers that he had a girlfriend.

President Dave – Gave a dollar in hopes that Mark might come to a meeting wearing his bellbottoms.  He’s off to the Equinox Hotel in Manchester for the State Travel and Tourism Conference.

Evan Webster – His was a heart warming 6th Grade. He had a girlfriend who was considering dumping him because he played too much football at recess. So he preemptively dumped her first.

District Director Steve – He remembers the 6th Grade days as being great because he was too young to work. All he had to do was water ski.

Elaine Dates – In Sixth Grade she saw three bullies beating up a small person so she stepped in and was bullied herself. On going home, her parents lectured her about being stupid.

Kris Engstrom – Paid a fine for a forthcoming trip to Michigan where she, her mom and sisters will be getting together. In 6th Grade, she had a boy friend who is still a friend. Next Wednesday she will be having her first cataract operation and she’s looking forward to better sight.

John Hammer – Happy to be back from 5 days in Florida. He doesn’t like Florida. He can’t remember a damn thing about 6th Grade.

Fritz Horton - Remembers Ms. Schrader as his Kindergarten teacher and Richard Crapmiller was the quintessential bully with squinty little eyes, a puffy round face and a mean smile. He was really dangerous at naptime.

Bob Sanders – Had his first girl friend in 6th Grade. Monday was his 30th wedding anniversary.

Linda Schiavonne – Happy Anniversary Bob.

Carole Obuchowski – She’s the one who brought up the whole 6th Grade thing. She remembers Ms. Crashies making her and her classmates stand up alone to sing.

Lara Kennan – Will be absent next Wednesday as she will be downstate running a technical conference. She was so happy that the temperature was above 30 degreed this morning

Roz Graham – Is not happy with the temperature being above freezing this morning as it bodes ill for sugar makers who need cold nights and warm days. She was not happy with 6th Grade because she changed schools and was not able to ride the school bus any longer. She missed the camaraderie that they had riding on the bus.

Tod Whitaker – He loved playing kickball in the playground. Paid a fine because he is now an empty nester because his daughter, husband and children have moved into their new house.

John Beal – Is happy that the odds at flipping pennies in 6th Grade are the same now.

Dave Rice – Remembers the bully in 6th Grade and how the students became sick of him. So, when 7th Grade came around ,they substituted Ex-Lax tablets for their Chiclets and that fixed him. Chiclets looked the same as Ex-Lax tablets.

Denny Bowen – Happy he can’t remember anything about 6th Grade.

John Dupee – Must have gone to the same school as he can’t remember anything either.

Michael Clapp – Happy to be boiling sap today. Still a great friend of his 6th grade girlfriend.

Doris Sage – In Fourth Grade she moved schools from a Canadian Catholic Girls School to an American Public School because the Quebec government mandated that all schools in the Provence had to teach in French.

Steve Dates drew the ticket for the meager pot of $54 and went on to pick the Joker!  He won!

Speaker – The scheduled speaker was absent today.
