Danielle Morse, the reigning Miss Vermont, was our guest speaker this morning. Danielle will be competing in the Miss America pageant in December.

Club Meeting

 

Susan called the meeting to order at 7:30am.

 

The club prepared tags to attach to  the Shelburne turkeys provided by our club.  There will also be a sign at the Shelburne food shelf where they are being distributed. Susan is waiting to hear on Charlotte and Hinesburg.

 

Linda Gilbert shared opening words. 

 

Ric Flood led the club in the four way test.

 

Chris Davis shared that barrels for the Gadue’s coat drive are arriving in the next day or so.  They’ll be set up next week.  

 

Chris also gave an update on the bike racks. Colors of each have been assigned and the Shelburne plaque is being created.

 

Richard Fox reported on the success of the Halloween parade.  Please provide Richard with your thoughts or ideas on how to improve the parade.  The parade is on for October 30, 2022.

 

Susan indicated Miss Vermont, Danielle Morse will be zooming with us at 7:50 this morning.

 

Linda Gilbert presented $100 and a thank you note from Carrie Spear to Susan for the participation of the club at the Charlotte Tractor parade.

 

Jim Donovan thanked the volunteers who helped plant the crocuses in Charlotte and will be planted this Saturday in Shelburne at the town office, 9:00 am.

 

Carrie Fenn reported on the proposed budget.  Carrie explained the shortage in the breakfast/social activity expenditure due to COVID 19 and the lack of in person meetings for an entire year.  Dan York made the motion to accept the budget as presented, the motion was seconded by Ric Flood and carried by the club.

 

Susan introduced Danielle Morse as the reigning Miss Vermont. She was brought up in the Middlebury area and graduated from Castleton State with a Nursing degree in May.  She plans to become an Operating Room nurse.  She also is a member of a volunteer fire department and does volunteer work for UVM’s Children’s Hospital.  She is currently in South Carolina preparing to make her gown for the Miss America contest set for December at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Her talent is speed painting!! 

She explained that the competition provides opportunities for scholarship monies for higher education, networking and participating in community activities.  Danielle was inspired by meeting Miss Vermont in 2015.  More information on the 501c3 non profit is available at www.missvermont.org

 

Jim Donovan presented Danielle “The Book of Awesome Women” by Becca Anderson to be donated to the Charlotte library.  

 

Additional club business was brought to the floor by Ric who confirmed that the board approved three new members, Rene Sanchez, Dave Micklas and Robert Glover.  The club approved membership of all three members.  They will be sworn in soon.

 

Susan spoke with Mike Ralston of Bistro Cucina about a club holiday outing in December.  There are two possible Wednesday evenings available. 

 

Ric is waiting for his mailing lists from the club membership for the direct mail solicitation letters. 

 

Carrie shared that the Hinesburg Community School and New Academy School in Burlington are both seeking volunteers for one hour per week to work with students. 

 

The local school food programs continue to need help as well.

 

Susan reminded the club The Shelter Box Zoom event is Thursday, November 4 and the Shelburne Food Shelf turkey distribution is November 9.
