Projects Report:

 
  • Turkeys: Todd reported that the Thanksgiving turkeys have been ordered.
 
  • Football Pool: Allen Bates announced that his wife and father in-law tied for most picks for week 8. Allen’s wife won the tie break for points. Barb Comeau came in second.  Allen is requesting that we all get our pick sheets in sooner or let him know that he needs to pick for you.
 
  • Hands to Honduras: Linda Gilbert, Dave and Al reported back from their trip to Honduras.
 
  • They were there (on Linda’s Birthday) to dedicate the new Neonatal unit of the hospital.
  • They now have stations for 22 babies, all state of the art and up to code.
  • They attended a Honduras sustainability conference.
 
  • Rotary Foundation: John Beal informed the group November is “Foundation Month”. The club will do a match for any club member’s donations.
 
  • Shelburne Library:
    • Lara gave an update on 2 upcoming events
 
  • Thursday 11/12 at 6:30 p.m.: VT Author Howard Frank Mosher & God’s Kingdom signing – Meet VT author Howard Frank Mosher – renowned for his funny and thought-provoking stories set in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom – as he introduces his newest title. Books will be available for purchase. This program is a partnership between the Pierson Library and the Flying Pig Bookstore.
  • The 3rd Tuesday of the month is coloring for adults.
 
  • Shelburne Food Shelf: Todd update the group that they are still working on 501.c status and formulating policies.
 
  • Note Taking: Dave update the group that there are 8 opening for note taking through the end of this year. Please sign up.

Guest Speaker Barry Finette MD, PHD from ThinkMD

 
Bio: Barry is a professor of pediatrics at the UVM college of Medicine and attending and teaching physician in the Pediatric inpatient and critical care division at Vermont’s Childrens Hospital at the UVM Medical Center. Barry is the CEO of ThinkMD. 
 
  • Problem:
    • 99% of kids under 5 die in resource poor countries.
    • 11 kids die every minute in these resource poor countries
    • Very few care givers in these resource poor countries spread out across thousands of children.  Care is limited.
  • Solution from ThinkMD – Medsinc
    • A mobile health technology that runs on a smartphone for the Community Health Workers in these resource poor countries
      • Assists in performing clinical assessments in children under 5
      • Helps give advice for Treatment
      • Acquires valuable public health data with specific GPS location tracking.
      • Solution is customized and tailored to specific regions for assisting in clinical assessments and treatments
  • Company status and structure:
    • Testing this product is several resource poor countries.
    • Raised 325k in seed money
    • Company is formed as a “Benefit Corp”  which has to prove its social relevance.
    • Revenue will be generated via  access to the platform and data generated sold to pharma etc.
      • Groups such as “Save the Childern” and Unicef may be interested.
    • May want to test solution with Hand to Honduras Tela  group 
 
The book “Reinventing Bach” will be donated to the library in honor of Barry and ThinkMD.
