Announcements and Other New Business:

            VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: February 3, Shelburne Farms Winterfest.  PARKING help and captain.  Our Club is committed to providing Shelburne Farms with parking                                                 assistance three times per year.  It is pretty easy duty, standing in the field directing traffic and cars to spots, and actually gives you an inflated sense of authority.  At                                         least 4 volunteers needed for the February 3rd event.  Please sign up!
 
            Valentines Day Social: Club Board idea of a Social to coincide with Valentines Day needs volunteers to plan, coordinate and lead. 
 
            ‘Scheduling Conflict’ with Dem. and Rep. Town Committee speakers otherwise scheduled for next week.  Some debate about the role of party politics in our club.  Discussion to continue.
 
Happy Fines:
Chris Davis handled Sargent-at-arms duties and fined all Patriots fans $1.
 
Kris Engstrom, Jane McKnight, Richard Fox and others happily paid their Patriots fines.
 
Linda Gilbert thanked the club for its continued and loyal assistance and involvement with Hands to Honduras-Tela (H2HT).
 
Megan Haley expressed her appreciation for the several H2HT trips she made over the years, and how her experiences on those trips inspired her decision to pursue a nursing degree and career.
 
President Erik’s son has his first solo Cello recital next week.
 
Joan Lenes won the drawing.  She picked the 7 of hearts, so the pot rolls over again to nearly $700.
 
Speaker Description and Summary:
Linda gave a through and interesting oveerview and slideshow of the work H2HT has done over the years.  The group is packing to head there again in February with 48 volunteers from the Club, community and other parts of the state and country.  This year, the Catawba Valley College (NC) nursing program is sending 3 students and several faculty to assist with various medical brigades.
The major building project this time is to add post-partum maternity rooms to the Tela Hospital complex.  Painting and latrine construction to also continue at the Tres De Octobre School.
 
Keith Walsh continued with Part 2 of his classification talk, relating several experiences and encounters with the supernatural.  Part 3 to follow at a date TBD.
