President Trafton began the meeting with a welcome to spring.

Guests included Debbie Hanley, Susan Grimes, Rebecca Lindermeyr and Laura Crandall.

President Trafton announced the District Conference from April 29 - May 1 at Jay Peak. Our Rotary Club will be participating in the curling tournament on Friday night (April 29). There are still tickets available for the duck race.

Bill Root will be talking about parking at Shelburne Farms on May 1st for Dairy Day.

Changing of the Guard will be on Friday June 17 at President Trafton's residence.

Ric Flood requested members to submit their contact lists for our Annual Fund Drive. It was noted that less than half the club has submitted a list to date.

Gary Marcotte filled in admirably as Sergeant at Arms for Evan Webster, who was unable to fulfill his duties due to a walking boot to treat achilles tendonitis. Evan took over note-taking duties for Gary.

Happy Fines:

Debbie Hanley was happy to be back and has a daughter visiting Aruba.

Ric Flood was happy to see Deb and is very sad to be missing the next two meetings while cage diving and doing wine tours.

Jonathan Lowell is happy to have his house back following an extended visit by his daughter, son and their pets.

Alan Bates was thinking of Ecuador and Japan in light of their recent earthquakes.

John Hammer was happy to hear about Ric's trip, his tax extension and to see Deb Hanley.

Judy Christensen was happy to see Deb and that her daughter Megan is a counselor at RYLA.

Howard Seaver was happy for spring.

Kris Engstrom was happy for our Librarian, Lara, and her recent "Lighten Up" program at All Souls. Also happy that her sister is coming to town with her beautiful jewelry.

Susan Grimes was happy to be in attendance for a third time and for spring.

Steve Dates was happy to see Deb and for his upcoming house closing.

Evan Webster was happy that Gary was able to take over his duties while his foot heals.

Lara Keenan was hoping for no snow at Maple Fest in St. Albans.

Trafton Crandall was happy to have Becca as our guest speaker.

George Schiavone was happy to have Gary as Sergeant at Arms.

Roz Graham was excited about "The Foreigner", the upcoming play by the Shelburne Players.

Jane McKnight was happy for daffodils.

Michael Clapp was happy for daffodils and grateful to the neighbor who planted them ~100 years ago.

Rebecca Lindenmeyr pulled the winning ticket: #745.

Rebecca Lindenmeyr was our guest speaker. She is a Landscape Designer and Certified Horticulturist from Shelburne. She has been the Co-Principal of the Linden L.A.N.D. Group for the last 13 years. Prior to this she spent 9 years as a consultant to the EPA and now integrates her environmental experience into designs that include green roofs, bioswales, and certified habitats. Her residental designs are known for integrating a modern aesthetic with Vermont's rustic landscape. She has won several awards from both NENA and Green Works, the VT Nursery and Landscape Association, as well as other community organizations, for her environmental service and professional contributions.

 

Her presentation included information on using nature as a filter to increase infiltration and slow down runoff. She talked about the importance of increasing the depth of soil structure, vegetated buffers, green roofs and walls, artful rainwater design, curb cuts to prevent running water, permeable paving, rain gardens, collecting water for re-use and using naturally filtering before releasing surface water.
