Long time Rotary members Jane Sumner and Kelly Drew with CSH President Amanda Vincent.
District Governor Kelly Drew is our guest today.
Amanda called the meeting to order at 7:30
Guests today are Kelly Drew, District 7850 District Governor, Jason Schnoor, Assistant District Governor and Jane Sumner, Rotarian, from Baltimore, Maryland.
Union Bank has contacted us to be a sponsor for the Golf Ball Drop this year, donating $1,000! They will also plan to be a (first) business sponsor.
Tom Chittenden from South Burlington Rotary contacted Amanda seeking volunteers for the annual Monster Mash which will be held at The Old Lantern on Friday, October 25. Volunteers are needed for the days ahead of the event.
Amanda introduced Kelly Drew – District Governor, District 7850, from North Conway, NH
Kelly shared that as a child, her father, who was a farmer, was dressing up in his three-piece suit and heading off to Rotary meetings with his friends and colleagues. Witnessing the work her father’s club did in their community was one reason she has been a Rotarian herself, since a young age. She joined along with her twin brother when she graduated from high school.
As a young mother, she was diagnosed with cancer. Her rotary club members would transport her to the hospital and appointments, provide food and take care of her daughter.
Kelly reminded the club that every time our club does a community event, we are publicizing Rotary and we can take these opportunities to advocate for Rotary and attract members.
Kelly presented Rotary International President Stephanie A. Urchick’s action plan as follows:
  • Impact – does it make a difference in our community?
  • Reach – how many people are we affecting/helping.
  • Engage – your members with opportunities to do so.
  • Adapt – to changing times via technology, etc.
Finally, Kelly encouraged us to spread the word about Rotary!  Share your pictures, host a “End Polio” event, start a companion club (we did!).
Amanda presented the book “The Serviceberry-Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World” by Robin Wall Kimmerer to be donated to the Hinesburg Library in her name.
