Rene Sanchez is our speaker today, speaking about the budget for Champlain Valley School District.

Carrie welcomed Lisa Davison, Sam Feitelberg’s daughter and Rene welcomed Gary Markus, a co worker of Rene’s.

Linda G. presented the Community Hero Award last week to Sam Feitelberg and his daughter Lisa is here to accept.   Linda shared the story of placing the award in the hands of the family. It was well timed and the family was very happy to receive this for him.

Lisa shared with the club how Sam is doing, and how honored he is to receive this award.  Sam’s life was one of service and Lisa shared how this was very important to him, as was being a Rotarian.

Keith provided an update on the Pie For Breakfast being held on March 18.  He is working with The Poor House Bakery pie company in Jericho, who will provide 100 pies of various varieties.  We may reach out to Boy Scouts and the CVU Community Outreach group for extra help.  Publicity will be “bust cabin fever” oriented. McFadden Academy Dance will provide entertainment.  Each member will be responsible for bringing at least one or two pies.  Volunteers will meet at 1:00 friday afternoon to set up.  Keith is having soda bread and honey for each attendee,  mimicking an Irish castle he visited, keeping away evil spirits in the building!

Ric announced the 2023 fundraising letter campaign. Each member will send in ten names and addresses as in past years.  The letters will go out in February/March.

Rene presented the proposed FY24 budget as a slide show presentation.  Growth and belonging for all is the overall theme.  The budget will support their mission, help implement key initiatives and improve the budgeting process.  Act 173(enhances the effectiveness, availability and equity of services and Act 127 (recalculating tax impact of the budget) are critical components of this budget.

Staffing remains a major issue.  2022-23 budget was $89 million. 2023-24 is $96 million.  The equalized tax rate went down $0.09 and the increase is only 7.5%.  Inflation is primary cause of tax increases in this budget.  An informational meeting open to public on March 6 at CVU.

Jim presented the book “Lifeskills for Tweens” by Ferne Bowe to be presented to the Shelburne Library.

The club posed for a video and photo with Lisa Davison to sing Sam a very happy birthday!

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30.
