Club Meeting

Susan called the meeting to order at 7:30.

Nancy shared the opening words.

Ric led us in the four way test.

Next Wednesday will be a potluck breakfast with donuts and bagels and coffee, as France is on vacation.  The club  continues to seek a replacement for France in June.  The Publicity committe will put something on Front Porch Forum. Susan will check in with the South Burlington Rotary Club as they serve breakfast on Thursday mornings.

Susan presented Bob Sanders with a Paul Harris award.

Susan also presented Roz Graham with flowers in recognition of being awarded the town of Shelburne’s Colleen Haag award.  This award is in recognition of a resident who exemplifies the spirit of public service, donating time, talent and energy for the betterment of their community.  Roz is more than a worthy recipient!!!

Susan spoke to the crisis in Ukraine.  Our District Governor, Mike Carrier, shared worthy causes as World Central Kitchen and Shelter Box as two organizations to which we can donate to.  Susan asked if, as a the club would like to make a donation.  Chris Davis made a motion to donate $250 to both organizations.  The motion was seconded by Ric Flood. The motion was unanimously passed by the club.

The Shelburne School is looking for someone to work at the school on Thursdays’. Jon Lowell volunteered to fill that spot.

Susan asked Richard Fox to speak to the club about The Hinesburg Scout organization. Norman Smith, Scout Master of the Hinesburg Scout Club, has asked the CSH Rotary Club to charter the Hinesburg Scout Club.  Chartering an organization requires “owning” physical assets, managing the finances, provide a space to meet, to name a few.  Our club already supports the Cub Scouts in Shelburne and the Boy Scouts in Charlotte.  After a discussion of liability, litigious activity, insurance and fees, Ric Flood made the motion to charter the club. The motion was seconded by Chris Davis.  The motion was unanimously passed by the club.

Two resettled Afghanistan families in Shelburne are in need of a couch and a chest of drawers.  School supplies, backpacks, diapers and toddler type board books are also needed.

Two Rotary Youth Leadership Award applications have been received! The interviews will be conducted in the near future.

Susan shared there is a Public Meeting on Zoom March 9 about the Shelburne Walk Bike Connectivity Study.  This information was provided to her by Tom Zenaty.  More information is in Susan’s Tuesday club newsletter.

A Rotary banner has been approved by the board to hang at the Shelburne Little League field.  Susan will talk to Carrie Fenn about a possible design for the banner.

The Shelburne Athletic Club wants to support another Spin-A-Thon with our club, possibly in April.  What do we want to raise money for?  The purchase of Automatic External Defibrillators and having them placed in one public place in each of our three towns was discussed.  The cost is about $2,000 each.  Chris Davis advised that the Rescue clubs would provide the training.

John Payne attended a rally yesterday in support of Yeoman.  The possibility of supporting that country can also be discussed.

Denis collected happy fines.

Susan had the members split into two groups for the remainder of this meeting.

One group will discuss our club’s decision to have a tent at The Shelburne’s Farmers Market once per month and donate the tent and it’s space the other three weeks.  Roz will give this group ideas on who and how we might do this.

The second group will write postcards on our stationary postcards to members who have not attended recently.

Susan adjourned the meeting at 8:30.
