There is a board meeting tomorrow morning at 7:30 at the town hall.

The Changing of the Guard ceremony and party will be Friday, June 24th, at The Point Bay Marina.

Denis collected the happy fines.

Dan introduced Lynne and Rene representing The Champlain Valley School District.   Lynne shared the mission statement of the district to open the meeting.

Their work begins in October with a think tank approach to hearing from the towns on the proposed budget.  Meeting education standards and accomplishing the mission statement are the primary goals of the board.

For the town meeting proposed budget next week, there will be $400,000 in the budget devoted to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).  The total budget amount is $85,285,440 which supports class sizes, two new teachers, a new HVAC technician, a 6% increase in diesel needs to name just a few!  There will be a 4.8% increase of which 80% is delegated to salaries.

The State of Vermont received ESSER funds from the federally mandated monies as part of the Covid relief package in 2020.  There are three years during which this money needs to be used or it “goes away.”

A $7,500,000 bond will be on the ballot March 1 as well. This money is targeted at life safety and accessibility requirements in the schools.

Rene and his staff are creating a five year strategic plan in March that will be presented to the communities.

A Zoom informational meeting on this budget will be held February 28 for more information.

Jim Donovan presented Lynne and Rene with a book to be donated to the Pierson Library, “Black Lives Matter At School.”

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30.
