CSH Rotary Meeting of 4/17/19

President Erik Kolomaznik led the pledge of allegiance and Susan Grimes gave a lovely devotional.

Several guests joined us today- Michael Dupee, Carol Geshe, Denise Mellia-Elemon, Mo Jo Kolomaznik, Claudia Moore, Matt Segal and Al Gilbert.

Nomination and election of the new board:

Keith Walsh is the incoming President.

Chris Davis is President elect.

Susan Grimes is Vice President elect.

Diana Vachon is continuing as Secretary.

Margo Casco  is continuing as Treasurer.

Margo Casco reported that the Pancake breakfast is on track. To do’s:

  • Posters need to get put around town
  • Folks need to sign up for shifts
  • We need to start publicizing like crazy
  • John Hammer has made a Facebook event. Please share widely!!

A motion was made, seconded and carried to provide a $250 donation to Camp Ta Kum Ta.

Trafton drew a Tulip ticket today. 27 tickets have been sold to date. France was the lucky winner (Yay! We can’t think of a more deserving person!).

John Dupee’s son Michael is hoping to forge a deeper relationship between the Shelburne Cub Scouts and the CSH Rotary. The Scouts have a desire to do more community service and to depend the relationship with Rotary. The club will seek out an individual to hold this relationship and help create opportunities for the two groups to work together. Green Up Day on May 4 is a great opportunity to start the partnership. A Cub Scout/Rotarian partnership is a also a good way for our group to create more visibility and for Rotarians to work around town.

John Dupee/ Sergeant at Arms collected Happy Fines. Being slow of hand and a newcomer who does not know many members’ names, Happy Fines are not noted in this recording. However, one notable Happy Fine was paid by Richard Fox, who is happy for the District Assembly. He notes if members haven’t been for a while, they should go! A lot has changed and the DA is a great event.

Linda Gilbert, chair of the Hands to Honduras Tela trip, presented on her group’s work during the Honduras trip in February. Linda does an incredible job organizing this service trip with 42 volunteers from 6 states.

Highlights of the trip included:

  • Out of Service Shelburne Police Department uniforms donated to the Tela Police Department

Hands to Honduras originated in 2005 as a group allied with a Middlebury Rotarian. CSH split off and established Hands to Honduras Tela. H2HT is more directed in its mission.

CSH Rotary gives $5,000 a year in support of the program. Although the trip is not directly Rotary, Rotarian theory of “service before self” guides the work.

H2HT is a community partnership, with a mix of community folks and Rotarians joining together to serve the Tela community.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:34.
